Christy Carlson Romano is sharing a health update that’s equal parts scary and surreal. A year after she was hit by birdshot during a clay pigeon shooting outing for her husband Brendan Rooney’s 42nd birthday, she told Fox News Digital that a fragment is still lodged behind her eye, about a millimeter from anything critical. If it moves, she could lose her vision. Doctors decided surgical removal was too risky and are monitoring it instead, and she says she can see normally right now.
She described the pellets as coming from roughly 250 feet away, striking her under the eye and in the forehead. Romano also opened up about how frightening the moment was, saying she thought she was going to die, and how the experience shifted the way she sees the world as a parent. She details the whole incident in her new memoir, Once Upon a Trainwreck.
Her bigger message is simple: life can change in an instant. It’s a reminder to appreciate the people around you and not take a normal Tuesday for granted. Have you ever had a close call that made you look at life differently? Tell us in the comments.
