Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson Play Themselves in 'Brothers' — and the Premise Is Based on a Real Rumor

Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson are reuniting on screen for the first time since‘True Detective,’and their new Apple TV comedy‘Brothers’has one of the wildest premises of the year. The two play fictionalized versions of themselves, lifelong friends whose bond gets thrown into chaos when they uncover a decades-old secret: they might actually be brothers.

The plot kicks off at McConaughey’s Texas ranch, where his mother Ma Mac, played by Holland Taylor, accidentally lets the secret slip. Woody goes on a truth-seeking mission while Matthew juggles an identity crisis and a potential run for Governor of Texas. It premieres Wednesday, Sept. 23 with two episodes, then runs eight episodes total through Nov. 4.
