Matthew Broderick has a story that will make every awkward person feel seen. On the Oct. 22 episode of the“Nepo, Baby!”podcast, he recalled driving up to Warren Beatty’s Mulholland home for what was supposed to be a single day of prep before filming 2016’s“Rules Don’t Apply.”He was so nervous that he pulled over on the way up just to sweat it out at the curb.
The day stretched on: dinner, a late script read, and then an offer to stay in the guest house for the night. Broderick tried to make a quiet exit the next morning, but ran straight into Beatty making oatmeal, and the mention of a home gym ended the conversation about leaving. That one night became roughly three months in the guest house. As Broderick put it, he never really left Mulholland.
The film itself, which Beatty directed, co-wrote and starred in alongside Broderick and Lily Collins, is one thing. The real story is the longest first day of work ever recorded. So what’s the longest a quick meeting has ever run for you? Tell us in the comments.
