Kendrick Lamar’s musical comedy Whitney Springs has hit another snag. Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the minds behind South Park, have issued a statement taking full responsibility for the film’s schedule delay, saying South Park and life’s circumstances got in the way but that they still believe in the project. The movie was originally set for July 4, 2025, later pushed to March 20, 2026, and has now been removed from Paramount’s release calendar entirely.
So what is Whitney Springs, exactly? Paramount picked up the project in 2022 after being impressed by Vernon Chatman’s script. It’s a musical comedy centered on a Black reenactor at a historical slave plantation museum who clashes with the town’s racist mayor, played by Parker. Parker directs, Stone produces, and Kendrick Lamar is producing through his company pgLang alongside co-founder Dave Free, plus he’s contributing brand-new original songs. The reported price tag sits around $100 million.
The film isn’t canceled, just undated, and everyone involved says they’re still committed. For fans of Kendrick and South Park alike, it’s a waiting game with no finish line in sight yet. So we want to hear from you: does a delay like this make you more hyped, or does it kill your excitement?
