WME hosted its inaugural Women’s Health Summit at Calamigos Ranch in Malibu, and the guest list read like a crossover episode. Mandy Moore, Emmy Rossum, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Phoebe Gates, Congresswoman Lauren Underwood and California gubernatorial candidate Xavier Becerra were all in attendance. The event also came with a wild piece of timing: it happened just one day before the Bryson Fire forced evacuations in the Malibu area.
Katie Couric appeared via video to promote her documentary“Hormonal!”and shared a statistic that reframed the entire conversation. According to Couric, erectile dysfunction, which affects 19% of men, has received five times more research funding than PMS, which affects 90% of women. The summit also marked the launch of the WME x Foundation for Women’s Health Catalytic Research Fund, aimed at closing that gap.
Organizers said the summit was inspired by advocacy-minded WME clients like Halle Berry, Lupita Nyong’o, Couric and Moore, for whom this work is deeply personal. WME’s Jeanell English and Hannah Linkenhoker led the program on behalf of the agency. So we want to hear from you: have you ever felt like a health concern of yours was brushed off?
