The Magic Lantern Film Society at Cameron University is bringing back its free movie nights for a 44th season, and the lineup has something for everyone. Starting September 11 with“Selena”and running through April 16 with“The Day of the Jackal,”the society will host 10 screenings at 7:30 p.m. in Room 114 of the Communications Building. The lone exception is“The Bridge on the River Kwai,”which will show at 6:30 p.m. on January 15. Every screening is free and open to the public.
This year’s picks include holiday favorites like“The Nightmare Before Christmas”for Halloween and“Her”for Valentine’s Day. Two films,“Her”and“The Imitation Game,”connect to Cameron University’s“Being Human in the Age of AI”festival, offering audiences a chance to think a little deeper about technology and relationships. International cinema fans will appreciate“Bicycle Thieves”and“Black Orpheus,”both screening with English subtitles.
Dr. John Morris, who has served as the society’s faculty advisor for 37 years, says the lineup is chosen each year by student officers and community members who want to showcase a variety of genres. After 44 years, the society remains a staple of Lawton’s cultural scene, offering a low-cost, high-quality entertainment option right on campus. What classic film would you love to see on the big screen for free?
