Lubbock Early Voting Numbers Beat Recent Midterms Despite Campaign Fatigue

Campaign season has been relentless, and plenty of people are saying they’re burned out on politics. The turnout data from one Texas county tells a more interesting story. Lubbock County recorded 52,610 ballots in the first eight days of early voting this year, compared with 37,651 in 2022 and 50,562 in 2018, according to the Lubbock County Elections Office.

By October 30th, preliminary figures showed roughly 80,935 in-person early votes. That’s more than all early votes cast in either the 2018 or 2022 midterms, though higher registration numbers mean raw totals don’t capture the full picture of voter engagement.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3rd, with polls open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and voting information is available at VoteLubbock.gov. For our Lawton listeners, the reminder holds: check with your county election board for your polling place and hours before you head out. The takeaway from Lubbock is simple: fatigue and turnout can live side by side. Maybe people aren’t tired of voting. Maybe they’re just tired of the arguing. What’s your take?
