Lawton packs two community events into one Saturday morning. The city’s Community Cleanout runs 9 a.m. to noon at two locations: the Lawton Public Library at 110 SW 4th for gently used donation items, and the FISTA parking lot at 200 SW C for bulk waste, household materials, e-waste, document shredding and recycling. Organizers ask residents to keep containers sealed and labeled and to avoid mixing materials, and a detailed list of accepted and prohibited items is posted for those planning to haul.
After the drop-offs, head to the Lawton Farmers Market for the 6th annual Chili&Cornbread Cook-off, hosted by the city and United Way of Southwest Oklahoma. It runs 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and proceeds benefit United Way. Cooks who want to compete need to register by Monday — $20 for chili entries, $5 for cornbread — with cash prizes including $50 for Judges’Choice chili and $25 for Judges’Choice cornbread.
Questions about the FISTA drop-off can go to the city’s contact, Cam Huynh. Whether you’re clearing out the garage or just showing up for a bowl, Saturday offers a low-cost, family-friendly way to back local nonprofits. Which event is on your calendar first?
