New Gratitude Line Lets You Thank a Veteran by Phone This Veterans Day

A new national phone line gives Americans a simple way to honor veterans before Veterans Day: call 1-248-VETERAN and press 1 to record a message of thanks. Veterans and their families can dial the same number and press 2 to hear the messages left for them. Cohen Veterans Network launched the effort, called“Call to Honor: A Veteran Gratitude Line,”to go beyond a quick handshake and offer a more personal kind of thank-you.

The timing matters. Only about six percent of Americans are veterans, and roughly one percent serve in uniform today. Dr. Anthony Hassan, president and CEO of CVN and a veteran of both the Army and Air Force, says those who serve don’t do it for the recognition, but knowing others appreciate the sacrifice still holds meaning. Messages will also be shared on CVN’s Facebook and Instagram channels.

For Lawton, this one hits close to home. Fort Sill anchors our community, and CVN’s Cohen Clinic at Red Rock is one of 23 clinics across 22 states and D.C., offering mental health care to post-9/11 veterans and their families. If you’re from an Army family, you’ve earned the right to make this call. If you’re not, that’s exactly who this line is for. Who’s the first veteran you’d thank if you picked up the phone today?
