Lawton Police End NW Ashby Standoff After Shots Fired at Officers During Welfare Check

Lawton police responded to a welfare check in the 5200 block of NW Ashby on September 19, and the call escalated quickly when a suspect fired a shotgun round toward officers. Additional shots were fired from inside the home at responding officers, prompting the department to set up a perimeter and bring in crisis negotiators along with its SWAT team.

After negotiations stalled, SWAT deployed chemical gas into the residence. An adult female exited through the back door and was taken into custody without further incident. She was medically cleared and arrested on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon. No officers were injured during the standoff.

Detectives later served a search warrant at the home and recovered a 12-gauge shotgun along with ammunition.
