Andrew Sun Wyatt, 45, of Lawton, waived his preliminary hearing Friday and was bound over for trial on 46 felony counts tied to child sex abuse allegations. The charges include 40 counts of first-degree rape of a victim under 14, along with child sexual abuse and lewd acts counts. Each count carries a maximum punishment of life in prison, and Wyatt remains held on $1.5 million cash-only bail. His formal arraignment is scheduled for 9 a.m. Nov. 16 before Comanche County District Judge Jay Walker.

According to a probable cause affidavit, a Lawton police detective interviewed the victim, who is now an adult. She told investigators that her mother’s ex-boyfriend groomed her with compliments and candy before the abuse escalated, and she estimated between 400 and 500 rapes occurred between ages 13 and 16 while the family lived in Cache and later in Lawton. She said the abuse began when she was 7 years old.

For families across Lawton, Cache, and the Fort Sill community, this case is a difficult reminder of how gradually grooming can unfold. Warning signs can include an adult who lavishes a child with gifts, seeks private time alone, or tests boundaries. Concerns about a child’s safety can be reported to local law enforcement or the Oklahoma child abuse hotline. Have you talked with your kids about recognizing inappropriate adult behavior?
