Lawton Halloween Looks Dry for Trick-or-Treating, But Severe Storms Arrive Monday

Lawton families can leave the rain gear at home Saturday night. The wet weather hanging over the area is expected to move east before trick-or-treating starts at 6 p.m., and the National Weather Service in Norman puts the rain chance at just 10 percent by then. That means a dry window from 6 to 9 p.m. for neighborhoods across town, from the streets around Fort Sill to trunk-or-treat events at local churches and schools.

The calm comes with a timer on it. Forecasters have placed parts of western, southern, central and eastern Oklahoma under a Slight Risk for severe storms Monday and Tuesday, the first days of November. Heavy rainfall and strong to severe storms are both possible, and that’s a setup worth respecting in a state where early-week weather can turn quickly.

The weekend is the right time to get ready. Make sure your phone has wireless emergency alerts turned on, check that the weather radio has fresh batteries, and walk the family through where you shelter if a warning is issued. None of that takes long, and all of it matters when the skies change.

Are you taking the kids out Saturday night, or heading to a trunk-or-treat? Tell us your plans in the comments.
