Katy Perry and Justin Trudeau: From Long-Distance to Montreal Romance

When pop star Katy Perry and former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau went public with their relationship last July, it felt like one of those celebrity pairings that couldn’t possibly be real. Yet here we are, less than a year later, and Trudeau is already inviting the 41-year-old singer to make Montreal her second home.

The reason? A sprawling seven-bedroom, five-bathroom mansion in the Outremont borough that Trudeau, 54, purchased for $3.1 million earlier this year. What makes the move particularly intriguing is its proximity to the home where he previously lived with his ex-wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, and their three children—Xavier, 18, Ella-Grace, 17, and Hadrien, 12. (The couple separated in 2023 after 18 years of marriage, with their divorce still ongoing.) The nearly 5,000-square-foot property offers more than enough space for a blended family arrangement, complete with room for Perry’s 5-year-old daughter, Daisy, whom she shares with ex-fiancé Orlando Bloom.

For now, though, Perry and Trudeau are navigating what insiders describe as a long-distance rhythm that’s working surprisingly well. Perry’s home base remains Montecito, California, where she and Bloom own a $15 million mansion and where Daisy attends school. The“Firework”singer spends most of her time there unless she’s traveling for tour dates, but she and Trudeau have carved out a pattern of frequent visits that keeps the spark alive—without requiring either to uproot their lives entirely.

When Perry does make the trek to Montreal, it’s clear she’s embraced the city like a true local. During a recent stay, she and Trudeau spent time between his Outremont home and friends’places in nearby Westmount, shopping for groceries, attending dinner parties as a couple, and taking walks through the neighborhood. They even caught a Montreal Canadiens game together—though the Habs have since been eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, so Perry’s willingness to support her boyfriend’s beloved hockey team may get tested soon.

The couple has been surprisingly public about their romance since making it Instagram official in December. Perry has shared glimpses of their life together on social media and made public appearances with Trudeau, signaling that this isn’t a fleeting fling. Whether she’ll eventually spend significant time in the Montreal mansion remains to be seen, but the fact that it’s there—spacious, prestigious, and waiting—suggests both are thinking long-term.
