Kathy Griffin Backs Kelly Clarkson in Brooklyn Toy Store Feud: "They Look Petty"

Kathy Griffin has officially picked a side in the Kelly Clarkson vs. Brooklyn toy store showdown, and it’s Team Kelly all the way. The feud kicked off when Clarkson said an employee at Art of Play patronized her over a $15,000 mechanical singing bird, comparing the moment to Julia Roberts getting snubbed in Pretty Woman. Store co-owner Adam Rubin fired back, calling her behavior a“reprehensible abuse of power”and saying his staff received threatening messages after Clarkson went public.

Griffin didn’t hold back either. She said she loves Kelly and believes her, adding that the store“looks petty”and would have blown up business-wise if they’d simply said,“Oh my god, we’re so embarrassed.”Instead, the shop chose to fight a superstar with a massive fan base, and the mechanical bird’s price tag has since been changed to a cheeky $15 million. Griffin is currently on tour and hits The Town Hall on Friday.

So the debate is on: should celebrities use their platforms to call out small businesses, or does that cross a line? And did the store handle this the right way by defending its employees, or did they miss the easiest PR win of the year? Sound off in the comments, we’re reading every take.
