Kristi Noem jumped on X this week to share her country music rankings, posting that she’d take Ella Langley over Kacey Musgraves“any day.”She also threw in a Texas Senate take, saying she’d back Ken Paxton over James Talarico. It didn’t take long for Musgraves to respond, and she didn’t hold back.
The“Rainbow”singer reposted Noem’s comment and replied:“I don’t think you have a dog in this fight but if you did you would have shot it.”The line references Noem’s 2024 memoir, where the political figure admitted to shooting her 14-month-old wirehaired pointer, Cricket, a decision she defended by saying tough farm decisions happen all the time. The View hosts criticized her over it back in April 2024, and the story has resurfaced repeatedly since.
The exchange blew up fast because it hits three things people can’t scroll past: celebrity, politics, and animals. Musgraves kept her response to one line, which made it land even harder. Noem hasn’t responded to the clapback publicly.
