The Gosselin family saga just reopened in a big way. Collin Gosselin, now 22, released a memoir Tuesday titled“In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood.”In the book, he alleges Kate placed him in a mental institution at age 12 and kept him in a holding cell for two years, where she told him he broke the family.
Kate responded on TikTok in a way that implied mental illness explained his claims, and she liked a comment suggesting he would regret it. That prompted Jon Gosselin to publicly defend his son, saying Collin was evaluated by multiple independent psychiatrists who found no mental illness. Jon is now threatening legal action against anyone who falsely labels his son mentally ill, telling Page Six,“The days of using mental health to discredit and silence my son are over.”Collin has said he is considering a police report and legal action against Kate.
The story raises questions plenty of people have personal feelings about: what a reality TV childhood really looks like off camera, and why mental health is still used to wave away what accusers say. Where do you land on this? Tell us in the comments.
