John Legend can add another major trophy to the collection. The EGOT winner will receive a lifetime achievement award at the 2027 Music Matters Awards Gala on May 21 at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Beverly Hills, hosted by the Guitar Center Music Foundation. The night raises funds for instrument grants and music education programs nationwide, and Legend will personally help provide instrument grants to a selected school or nonprofit.
The gala brings the full awards-season treatment: red carpet, dinner, awards, musical tributes, and performances by fellow artists, with additional honorees and presenters announced in the coming months. Legend said in a statement that music is“one of the most profound forms of human expression, connecting communities and inspiring possibility,”a message that lines up with the Foundation’s mission.
Individual tickets start at $2,500 and are available now for anyone who wants to see it all go down in person. Everyone else can catch the highlights and celebrate an artist who’s using his platform to keep school music programs alive.
