Jasmin Brown Opens Up About Postpartum Depression After Two Babies Back-to-Back: "It Kicked Me in My Teeth"

Jasmin Brown is sharing a story that far too many moms know firsthand. The comedian and actress revealed on Instagram that she experienced postpartum depression after welcoming two children back-to-back with boyfriend Cam Newton, a daughter in 2024 and a son in 2025. She said the reality didn’t hit her until an entire year after her son was born, once she finally hired a nanny and had space to slow down. In her words, it“literally just kicked me in my teeth.”

Brown also described herself as a“high functioning”depressed person, someone who kept smiling, kept working, and kept showing up for everyone else while struggling privately. That detail is exactly why her story matters. Postpartum depression doesn’t always announce itself. It affects roughly 1 in 8 women, and the risk is about 1.6 times higher for Black women, yet Brown points out that many people still treat it like a hoax, a stigma made louder by online debate around the Lindsay Clancy trial. She used her platform to send a direct message to men: take your partner’s mental health seriously.

Her honesty is a reminder that asking a new mom how she’s really doing, and listening to the answer, could matter more than we think. A check-in text, a nap, a meal, or just a genuine“you don’t have to be okay right now”can go a long way.

Have you ever checked on a new mom and discovered she needed way more support than she let on? Tell us in the comments.
