Inés Gómez Mont became a viral sensation in 2008 when she showed up to Super Bowl Media Day in a wedding dress and proposed to Tom Brady on live TV. It was camp, it was chaotic, and it was unforgettable. Nearly two decades later, she’s making headlines for something far more serious.

On Friday, ICE arrested the 43-year-old Mexican sports reporter in Miami over fraud charges. Prosecutors allege she and her husband, Víctor Manuel Álvarez Puga, ran a $160 million scheme using shell companies, sham contracts, and false invoices to divert funds from Mexico’s Interior Ministry. The couple fled Mexico in September 2021 after warrants were issued. Her husband was detained by ICE in September 2025 but later released, and his current whereabouts are unknown. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has publicly called the couple“known fraudsters.”

Mont denies any wrongdoing, saying she has never received money from those contracts and that she is being silenced. She remains in US custody pending immigration and extradition proceedings. Do you remember that 2008 proposal moment? Tell us in the comments.
