Free AI Talks at Cameron University: Experts on Ethics, Warfare, and What It Means to Be Human

Cameron University is bringing the future to Lawton. Starting August 27, the university’s 13th academic festival,“Being Human in the Age of AI,”will feature a lineup of nationally recognized experts discussing everything from AI in state government to autonomous weapons and the ethics of artificial intelligence. The festival runs through spring 2027, with most public presentations taking place at the University Theatre starting at 7:30 p.m. and admission is free.

The opening speaker is Tai Phan, Oklahoma’s first Chief AI and Technology Officer, who will talk about how the state is putting AI to work. Former Oklahoma Congressman Brad Carson will address ethical AI in Duncan on September 10. Later speakers include Paul Scharre, a former Army Ranger who studies AI and modern warfare, Brian Christian on AI and human identity, and Roman Yampolskiy on AI safety. Each expert also holds a private session for Cameron students earlier in the day, so the community gets its own evening conversation with these leaders in their fields.

For Lawton residents and the Fort Sill community, the discussion around AI and defense is especially relevant. For everyone else, it’s a rare chance to hear world-class thinkers without leaving town.
