Caleb Flynn once auditioned on American Idol with dreams of making it big. This week, an Ohio jury convicted the former musical pastor of murdering his wife, Ashley Flynn, after only about 2.5 hours of deliberation. He was found guilty on all charges, including aggravated murder, multiple counts of murder, felonious assault, and tampering with evidence.
The case centered on a shocking contradiction. When Flynn called 911 in February, he claimed a burglar had broken into their Tipp County home and shot his wife. But during the trial, prosecutors presented testimony about a 1.5-year affair between Flynn and a 24-year-old church intern, Alleigha Botner. They also showed text messages where Flynn wrote he would kill his wife in a heartbeat if he could avoid hell.
Flynn’s defense attorney, Patrick Mulligan, said the team respected the verdict but was disappointed, arguing there was a lack of evidence on prior calculation and design. Flynn appeared on American Idol season 12 in 2013. His sentencing has not yet been scheduled. Two daughters are now without their mother, and their father faces a lifetime behind bars.
