Fleetwood Mac is finally opening the vault. Apple has announced that Fleetwood Mac: The Chain, the first fully authorised documentary about the band, will premiere on Apple TV on January 29, 2027. Directed by Frank Marshall, the film features new interviews with Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, along with never-before-seen footage and archival interviews with the late Christine McVie. Apple is billing it as the definitive chronicle of the band’s career highs and lows.

For a group that has sold more than 220 million records, it’s wild that this is the first time they’ve cooperated fully on a documentary. Fleetwood Mac’s story is famously tangled, with personal turmoil and shifting lineups somehow producing some of the most enduring songs in rock history. Now the band gets to tell it in their own words, which means fans should expect honesty as well as the hits.

The buzz around the film grew louder thanks to Buckingham, who said he and Nicks are talking all the time now, adding that 2027 should be a pretty interesting year because quite a few things will reveal themselves. Whether that points to a reunion or something else, it’s clear Apple TV just landed one of the biggest music documentaries in years. What Fleetwood Mac era are you most excited to see covered?
