Nathan Fielder’s new documentary You Can See Everything is already one of the biggest non-music documentary openings ever, and the story behind it just got stranger. In a new WIRED interview, Fielder revealed that Elizabeth Holmes called him from prison the night before the film’s release, after six months of complete silence. She asked how he was doing, mentioned she’d heard some things about the movie but hadn’t read much, and talked about her kids. Twice during the call, she told him“I trust you.”Fielder says he still doesn’t know what she meant.
The timing was wild: the documentary went on to earn $15 million from 855 theaters in its opening weekend, the second-biggest debut ever for a non-music documentary. It trails only Fahrenheit 9/11 and sits ahead of Melania. So the curiosity around Holmes clearly hasn’t faded one bit.
Fielder told WIRED that the whole thing is“hard to unravel,”and that he doesn’t want to read too much into any single moment of the call. Fair, honestly. What do you think Holmes meant by“I trust you”? Drop your theory in the comments.
