Dua Lipa showed up to the WSJ. Magazine Innovator Awards on Thursday in a cream Chanel skirt suit and a frayed black raffia hat, and social media went straight to work. The look was designed by Chanel creative director Matthieu Blazy and debuted in July as part of his fall 2026 couture collection, featuring vining embroidery, purple pansy buttons, and a pearl-and-chain safety pin. She paired it with black satin pumps, Bulgari diamond earrings, a Serpenti Viper ring, and a pearl necklace wrapped around her ankle. It was a lot to take in, and the comments rolled in fast.

Online, people compared the outfit to a grandmother, Mary Poppins, a bird’s nest, and Easter basket grass. Others caught classic Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady and loved it. Inside the Museum of Modern Art, Lipa and fellow Chanel ambassador A$AP Rocky presented Blazy with the Fashion Innovator Award, so the designer had reason to celebrate no matter what the comment section decided.

Lipa has been a Chanel ambassador since starring in the house’s handbag campaign in 2025, and between her wedding to Callum Turner and her awards season schedule, every red carpet is now its own debate. Would you wear the raffia hat or leave it on the shelf? Tell us in the comments.
