In Lawton, Oklahoma, a pre-release inmate named Donald Compton decided to turn his work shift into a rather unexpected adventure. Scheduled to work at Wrights Diner, Compton left for a break early Thursday morning and didn’t return. This hiccup led to a search for Compton, with the Lawton Police Department putting out a call for help from the public to locate him.

The drama didn’t last long, as by 1:30 p.m., Compton was found and returned to custody. Described as a Black male, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing around 208 pounds, Compton seemed to have made a ‘break’ of a different kind than most people take at work. While many of us can relate to needing a quick escape from the grind, this diner detour was a whole different ball game and certainly not the kind of breather you want to take.

So, the next time you think about slipping away for just a few moments, remember: sometimes, “taking a break” can lead to a little more excitement than you bargained for—diner coffee included!
