Child Care Subsidy Income Changes Delayed to February 2027: What Lawton Families Need to Know

Oklahoma Human Services has pushed back the effective date for new Child Care Subsidy income eligibility rules, moving the change from October 1, 2026 to February 1, 2027. The shift gives families, child care providers and program administrators more time to prepare for the new thresholds.

When the changes take effect, new applicants will need a household income at or below 55% of the state median income to enter the program. Families already receiving the subsidy will be supported at renewal up to 70% of state median income, a graduated approach designed to keep kids in consistent care as household earnings grow. Until then, current eligibility rules and copayments remain in place through each family’s next renewal.

For Lawton households, particularly those connected to Fort Sill or working shift schedules, child care costs can be one of the largest monthly expenses. The delay doesn’t change the eligibility rules themselves, but it does give families a longer window to plan. The state says anyone already enrolled doesn’t need to take any action right now.
