Cameron University is celebrating its 2026 Homecoming,“Road to Gold,”and it is doing it in the fall for the first time in more than 30 years. Since the early 1990s, Homecoming had been tied to late-winter basketball, which meant cold gyms and February road trips for returning alumni. This year the celebration runs Monday through the following weekend, with student events each night at 6 p.m. in the McCasland Ballroom at the McMahon Centennial Complex.
Students can look forward to karaoke, terrarium building, a casino night and dance, plus a Chick-fil-A giveaway Wednesday in Cameron Park. Alumni take over Friday and Saturday with a tailgate, volleyball matches against Lubbock Christian and Midwest State, Homecoming royalty crowning, ice cream floats, Saturday breakfasts, Hall of Fame inductions and the annual alumni awards dinner. One event is up in the air: the 9 p.m. Friday fireworks show is tentative because of the burn ban in Comanche County. The classes of 1976 and 2001 will hold their 50th and 25-year reunions Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
The move to fall is expected to bring more alumni back to campus and give current students a bigger week to rally around.
