Blake Lively Needs a Summer Break From Her Legal Battle

When a lawsuit finally settles, you’d think the paperwork would wrap up quickly. Not quite. Blake Lively’s legal team just asked a federal judge for some breathing room—at least a week, potentially a full month—to file documents detailing how much she’s owed in attorneys’fees from her settled case against Justin Baldoni.

The Gossip Girl alum was originally supposed to submit her fee petition by June 22, but her lawyers say they need extra time to compile all the relevant billing records and arguments. More importantly, they cited a schedule packed with what they called“conflicting personal and professional obligations, including international travel”throughout the summer. Translation: Blake’s got plans, and they apparently can’t be rescheduled.

This comes after a mixed outcome in the case. Blake won the right to recover legal fees—a meaningful victory—but lost her bid for punitive damages, which would have delivered a more substantial financial hit. So while she’s not walking away empty-handed, the fee calculation matters. Her legal team needs to build a comprehensive case for why those attorneys’fees should be substantial.

The judge hasn’t ruled on the extension request yet, so Blake and her lawyers are in limbo waiting to hear whether they’ll get their reprieve. If approved, the July deadline would give her until mid-July to get everything together. It’s a reminder that even after a legal battle winds down, the administrative grind—and the real-world schedules of the people involved—can extend the endgame considerably.
