Binghamton Researchers Cracked Wordle With Math and a 99% Win Rate

Your Wordle strategy might need an upgrade. Researchers at Binghamton University and SUNY built a math-based method that solves 99% of Wordle puzzles within six tries, and it’s all thanks to something called Shannon entropy. The idea: the best guess isn’t always the most likely answer, it’s the one that eliminates the most other possible words.

Their simulations crushed the traditional common-letters approach, which only managed a 90% success rate. The research, led by Assistant Professor Congyu“Peter”Wu, is published in the Northeast Journal of Complex Systems. The catch is that you’d need a companion script that reads your green and yellow squares and suggests the next most informative guess.
