Spring has brought fresh joy to Big Bear Valley as Jackie and Shadow, the beloved bald eagle couple, have welcomed two new eaglets into their nest. The first eaglet cracked its shell on the evening of April 4, with fans eagerly watching via the live stream. Just hours later, the second chick followed suit, delighting the community and proving the couple’s resilience after previous setbacks this season.

Earlier in their nesting cycle, Jackie and Shadow suffered heartbreak as two eggs were lost during a raven attack. Yet, after laying a second clutch of eggs late February, perseverance paid off in the form of these two healthy hatchlings. Viewers can’t wait to see what local third graders will choose for the eaglets’ names, especially as a tribute to the late wildlife activist Sandy Steers. If there’s one lesson from these proud parents, it’s that nature always has a way of renewing hope, even when circumstances seem grim!
