Ben Savage Breaks Silence With Cryptic Post as Boy Meets World Cast Speaks Out

Sometimes the loudest statement is made in the quietest way. That’s what Ben Savage seemed to suggest on Monday, June 15, when he posted two photos to Instagram alongside three words:“Good company.”The image showed the 45-year-old actor cradling his 7-month-old daughter in a suit against a leafy backdrop—a far cry from the Hollywood spotlight he’s inhabited and, in recent years, deliberately stepped away from.

The timing? Anything but coincidental. Just one week earlier, Will Friedle, who played Eric Matthews on the’90s ABC sitcom Boy Meets World, had gone public with his desire to reconcile with Savage, telling Us Weekly he wanted to address their estrangement“to his face.”Danielle Fishel, who played Topanga Lawrence opposite Savage’s Cory Matthews, echoed the sentiment, suggesting that an in-person conversation would be“good.”Enter Savage’s cryptic post—a declaration of sorts that he’s found contentment elsewhere.

The rift between Savage and his former castmates isn’t new, but it’s come into sharper focus thanks to Doc Meets World, a documentary that premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 6. In it, Rider Strong, who played Shawn Hunter, revealed that Savage had unfollowed the trio on Instagram and blocked their phone numbers after they launched Pod Meets World in June 2022. Strong claimed the group had thought they were on friendly terms, making the sudden silence particularly stinging. Friedle is even shown in the documentary displaying years’worth of unanswered texts—messages sent roughly once a month in hopes of eventually hearing back.“I really do miss him,”Friedle says in the film.“He’s arguably one of the funniest people I’ve ever met in my life.”

Fishel addressed Savage’s absence from Pod Meets World in July 2022, explaining that they’d explored multiple ways to include him before he ultimately declined.“We talked about all the different ways we could do it. And at the end of our conversations, Ben said,‘I just don’t think it’s for me.’And we get it,”she shared at the time. But that respectful boundary seems to have hardened into something more distant over the years.

What makes Savage’s journey particularly poignant is the contrast between his on-screen devotion to his character’s relationships and his current real-world detachment. After Boy Meets World wrapped in 2000, followed by a three-season spinoff from 2014 to 2016, Savage gradually distanced himself not just from the cast but from Hollywood itself. Bonnie Bartlett, wife of William Daniels (who played mentor George Feeny), told Page Six in May that the cast“had some problems working together as…they grew up,”but she emphasized they’re all good people who’ve done well.

Savage has never publicly commented on the estrangement, and his Instagram post—focusing instead on his new role as a father—might be exactly that: a statement that his priorities have shifted, that“good company”now means his wife Tessa Angermeier and their daughter, not the nostalgic reunion his old friends are chasing. Whether that’s closure or just the latest chapter in a complicated friendship remains to be seen.
