An autopsy released Wednesday has brought a name from a 2010 celebrity scandal back into the news. Erin Benavides, the former prosecutor once accused of an emotional affair with Tony Parker during his marriage to Eva Longoria, died by suicide on October 14 at her home in Port Aransas, Texas. She was 54.

According to the Nueces County Medical Examiner’s Office, Benavides’blood alcohol concentration was 0.401%, more than five times the legal driving limit. Isopropanol and acetone were also found in her system, and the report noted a history of suicidal comments, including texts sent to family.

Benavides was married to Parker’s Spurs teammate Brent Barry when the affair allegations surfaced in 2010, and she denied them at the time. The story made national headlines as Longoria and Parker’s marriage fell apart. This week’s report is a somber footnote to a chapter most people remember only as tabloid drama. If you or someone you know is struggling, the 988 Suicide&Crisis Lifeline is available 24/7 by call or text. How do you think the media should cover stories like this?
