Anuel AA dropped his new single“Vuelve”on Friday, Oct. 9, but the song title isn’t the only thing turning heads. In an Instagram post celebrating the release, the Puerto Rican artist asked his ex, Karol G, to unblock him on social media. The caption read:“VUELVE KAROL G UNBLOCK ME BB. IT’S NOT THAT I’M A PLAYER; IT’S THAT I FALL DEEPLY IN LOVE.”The post featured release-day photos and clips from the music video, and the comment section filled up fast with reactions from fans and fellow artists, including producer Eva Beatz. The internet, as expected, had a field day: one popular reaction going around is that if Karol G gets back with Anuel, the commenter will unblock their own ex.
The timing is what makes this one interesting. Karol G and Anuel AA met in 2018 while filming the video for“Culpables,”went public that November, and announced their breakup in April 2021 after more than two years together. Anuel has since been linked to Yailin La Más Viral and is currently with Fabiana Buitrago, which is why fans are debating whether the unblock request is real emotion or a very clever promo play for“Vuelve.”
Either way, the rollout worked: everyone’s streaming the song and talking about the post. Next up, Anuel is scheduled to appear at Billboard Latin Music Week in Miami Beach from Oct. 19-22, where he’ll take part in a Superstar Q&A. So, we have to ask: do you think Karol G should unblock him, or is this one request that should stay on read?
