Sacha Baron Cohen dusted off the gold chain and brought Ali G back this weekend, and his first target was Noel Gallagher. In an Instagram video posted Saturday, Oct. 24, the character confronted the Oasis co-founder at a cinema, telling him“You’se in my seat. Iz you got a ticket?”before dubbing him“Nigel Gallagher”and mocking him as“a 50-year-old white man trying to make a comeback after 20 years.”The whole thing is promo for the new sequel Ali G: Who Iz I?, the follow-up to 2002’s Ali G Indahouse.
Gallagher took the roast in stride while Ali G also made a move on his girlfriend, but the timing is what makes this one land. Gallagher recently announced 2027 Oasis reunion dates, so the comeback line hits dangerously close to home. There’s a backstory too: in 2015, Gallagher said he deliberately chose a private school for his kids so they wouldn’t come home“talking like Ali G.”Ten years later, the character showed up in person to collect.
The clip is already all over social feeds, a rare viral movie stunt that gives you a decade of British pop culture lore in under two minutes. Whether you’re here for the Ali G revival or the Oasis drama, it delivers. Which one do you think is the bigger 2020s comeback: Ali G or Oasis? Sound off in the comments.
