Zendaya's Emmy Pixie Cut Was a Halle Berry Tribute and Berry's Response Was Everything

Zendaya turned heads at the 78th Emmy Awards on Sept. 14, not just for her custom Prada sequin gown but for her boldest hair move yet. The actress debuted a modern pixie cut, her shortest style ever, and her hairstylist Coree Moreno confirmed the look was a tribute to none other than Halle Berry. It was a classic pixie reimagined through a modern, editorial lens.

Berry didn’t let the moment pass quietly. The next day she hopped on X to praise Zendaya, writing that she“murdered the night”and calling her“my girl.”It was a full-circle celebration of two generations of Black Hollywood talent. Berry’s own pixie helped launch her career in the 1980s, and she wore short hair when she made history in 2002 as the first Black woman to win the Best Actress Oscar.

Zendaya, a CFDA Fashion Icon Award winner since 2021 and a longtime collaborator with stylist Law Roach, clearly knows the power of a statement look. And with Berry having previously said she’d love to play Zendaya’s mom on screen, this might be the start of something bigger. What do you think? Should these two team up for a project?
