Collin Gosselin, one of the eight kids from TLC’s Jon&Kate Plus 8, has officially turned his story into a bestseller. His memoir In the Shadow of Eight has now spent two consecutive weeks at #1 on The New York Times Best Seller list, a milestone that has pulled the family’s long-running drama back into the spotlight.
The book includes Collin’s allegations that his mother, Kate Gosselin, was physically and emotionally abusive. Kate has repeatedly denied the allegations. This week, Collin’s stepmother, Stephanie Lebo, who married Jon Gosselin in November 2025, praised him on Instagram, writing that he is“changing the world”and that after years of fighting to be heard, the world is finally listening. Collin responded with a Friday post thanking supporters and addressing his mother directly, saying her attempts to“conceal her abuse and break my spirit”are not working.
For anyone who watched the family on TV from 2007 to 2017, this is one of those stories that hits differently now that the kids are adults with their own voices and platforms. The bigger conversation it’s sparking: what reality TV childhoods really cost, and who gets to tell that story. Are you planning to pick up a copy of In the Shadow of Eight?
