A TikTok creator known as @nashalantmusic just shared a date story that’s making the rounds, and it’s a masterclass in audacity. According to her video, her date spent the entire evening on his phone. When she asked him to be present, he told her he was“looking for my wife,”which turned out to be literal: he was swiping on the dating app Coffee Meets Bagel while sitting across from her.
It gets wilder. He then told her she shouldn’t try the app because she wasn’t ready for anything serious, and his reasoning was that a truly ready person would have walked out the moment they saw him swiping. The video has since collected 9,776 likes, 702 comments, and 621 saves, with commenters overwhelmingly agreeing she should have left much earlier.
Dating app etiquette has always been a minefield, but this story raises a real question: when is it okay to be on your phone during a date?
