A ten-dollar digital camera from a North Carolina estate sale turned into the kind of story you can’t make up. Haylee Davis, 23, bought the camera on a whim, popped out the memory card, and started scrolling through eight gigabytes of someone else’s life. Somewhere in that pile of vacation pics and blurry selfies was her own fourth-grade class photo.
The camera had belonged to Ryan Houser, 36, who once visited her elementary class to talk about hiking the Appalachian Trail. His memory card traveled with him through the trail itself, Telluride, Burning Man, and college, capturing a whole era before it landed back in her hands. Davis reached out and returned the card to him.
