William Shatner, 95, Just Played His First Metal Show and Covered Metallica

William Shatner is ninety-five years old, and on Saturday night he played his first metal concert at Park West in Chicago, backed by his band The *uckers. The set included covers of Ozzy Osbourne’s“Crazy Train,”Motörhead’s“Ace of Spades,”and Metallica’s“Enter Sandman,”all delivered in his signature spoken-word style while the band handled the instrumentals. He also performed three originals:“Rage,”“Sky,”and“One Fear.”

The show is tied to a bigger project. Shatner is working on his debut metal album,“What the F Is Heavy Metal?”for Cleopatra Records, and the guest list is stacked: Brian May of Queen, Rob Halford of Judas Priest, Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath, and Dave Lombardo. That’s a lineup spanning decades of heavy music, all backing a man who first became famous piloting the Enterprise.
