Utah Couple's Tesla Uber TikTok Goes Viral: Why EVs Make Some Riders Instantly Carsick

A Utah couple just went viral for a very relatable reason: they got instantly carsick in the back of a Tesla Uber. Brock and Kesley, who post as @brock_and_kesley, shared a TikTok showing themselves visibly fighting nausea during their ride. Kesley gripped her thigh and stared deadpan while Brock stared straight ahead. The comment section quickly filled with people saying they’d experienced the exact same thing, with one writing,“I thought I was crazy.”

So what’s actually going on? Electric vehicles rely heavily on regenerative braking, which means the car slows aggressively the moment you lift off the accelerator. That creates a jerky, stop-and-go motion that can seriously throw off your inner ear. Add in how quiet EVs are, and your brain gets less sensory information to make sense of the movement, which can make motion sickness worse.

Neurologist Dr. Nicolas Hac told reporters he hears complaints like this at least twice a month, which suggests EV carsickness might be way more common than anyone realized. Whether it changes how you feel about catching an electric rideshare is up to you, but at least now you know you’re not imagining it. Have you ever felt sick in an electric car? Let us know.
