U.K. police have confirmed they are conducting internal enquiries into whether a 2018 letter about allegations against Thomas Markle Sr. was handled properly by the Met’s Royalty and Specialist Protection Command. The force says it is not investigating Meghan Markle’s father directly because he does not live in the U.K.

The allegations resurfaced after Thomas Markle Jr. said he discovered a cache of child sex abuse material in boxes at his father’s former home in the Philippines and reported it to local authorities and the FBI. Thomas Sr., 84, who now lives in a Florida nursing home, denies the claims, saying he could never do what he is being accused of. No arrests have been made in the Philippines or the U.S.

Meghan said she was told in 2018 about troubling allegations against her father and was assured they were being investigated, adding that her choice to keep him from her children was made to protect them. The family remains publicly divided, and the police review is still open. Do you think a 2018 letter should have prompted more action at the time?
