Tyler Perry is trading drama for holiday spirit with“The Gospel of Christmas,”premiering on Netflix Nov. 11. Fantasia and Tank star as Rebecca and Isaac, a pastor and his wife determined to save their family church in a struggling New York neighborhood. Isaac’s faith gets tested as he fights for his church, his family and his community, and the story unfolds with all the heart Perry fans expect.
The cast reads like a gospel hall of fame: Yolanda Adams, Fred Hammond, CeCe Winans, Shirley Caesar and the Clark Sisters all appear, with Kirk Franklin producing the film’s music. Perry wrote, directed and produced the movie alongside Angi Bones and Tony L. Strickland. It’s also Fantasia’s biggest screen role since her acclaimed performance as Celie in 2023’s“The Color Purple,”and Tank continues to prove his range as both a singer and an actor.
Perry announced the project with his signature humor, saying he’s taken audiences to a family reunion, a college road trip, to prison, and now to church. With a faith-friendly story, a powerhouse soundtrack and a holiday release date, this one is shaping up to be a season favorite.
