Troye Sivan has released“Party,”the second single from his upcoming album“She’s the Best,”due October 9. The electro-dance track samples Madonna’s No. 1 hit“Music,”giving one of pop’s most iconic floor-fillers a brand-new lease on life.
The accompanying video, directed by Gordon von Steiner, was filmed at a castle in Berkeley, England. In it, Sivan appears as a medieval knight, surrounded by choreography and some decidedly risqué scenes, all narrated by none other than Sir Ian McKellen. Sivan explained that McKellen’s involvement fulfilled a personal goal tied to what he calls“queer lineage,”the idea of one generation of artists passing the torch to the next.
Sivan also shared that he and Madonna share a philosophy about nightlife:“We both take partying quite seriously. It can be this very transcendent and almost spiritual experience.”It’s a theme that runs through the song, which co-writers include Leland, Tyde Levi, and Rob Feher, among others.
So, is“Party”your new go-to track for a night out, or is the Madonna original still untouchable? Let us know what you think in the comments.
