Sasha Whitney posted a nearly seven-minute video blaming the No Child Left Behind Act, the 2002 law signed by President Bush, for what she calls an education crisis built on testing instead of retention and comprehension.

Whitney argues the law pushed teachers to be responsible for performance while parents and students got a pass, and that kids moved through grades without mastering basics like phonics. The law was replaced in 2017 by the Every Student Succeeds Act, but standardized test scores are still tied to school funding, so the pressure to teach to the test never fully went away.
