The Decemberists are officially back. The band just released“The Better Part of Bravery,”their first new music since 2024’sAs It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again. The track plays over the end credits ofWildwood, an upcoming stop-motion animated film directed by Travis Knight. It’s a full-circle moment for the band, sinceWildwoodis adapted from frontman Colin Meloy’s 2011 debut novel of the same name.

The film features an absolutely stacked voice cast, including Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Jacob Tremblay, Carey Mulligan, Mahershala Ali, and Angela Bassett.Wildwoodis making its world premiere at the BFI London Film Festival on October 11th, followed by a theatrical release across the US, Canada, the UK, and Ireland on October 23rd. Meloy said having music accompany the audience as they leave the forest and the story comes to a close is particularly meaningful, and it’s easy to see why.

Between the new song, the book-to-screen journey, and that cast list,Wildwoodis shaping up to be one of the most interesting releases of the season. So, are you more excited about the Decemberists comeback or finally seeing Meloy’s novel come to life on screen?
