Bobb’e J. Thompson, best known for playing Stanley on Disney Channel’s That’s So Raven, has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison. The charge: possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, which stems from a September 2025 traffic stop in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa.

According to authorities, Thompson was driving 104 miles per hour in a 70-mile-per-hour zone when officers pulled him over. Police say he switched seats with a passenger before the stop, and a search of his backpack turned up a loaded .40-caliber handgun and marijuana. The gun had been reported stolen from a vehicle in Kansas City, Missouri. Because Thompson had prior felony convictions in 2020 and 2022, he was legally barred from possessing a firearm.

He pleaded guilty and will serve three years of supervised release after his prison term. In the federal system, there is no parole, meaning the full 30 months will be served. It’s a stark fall for a performer who was once one of the most recognizable young actors on television, and a reminder of how seriously federal courts treat felons found with guns.

What do you think about the sentence — fair, too harsh, or not enough? Sound off in the comments.
