Telfar Closed Paris Fashion Week From a Brooklyn Sample Sale and It Was Iconic

Telfar Clemens has never been big on following the rules, and Paris Fashion Week just found out the hard way. Instead of flying to France, he staged his Spring/Summer 2027 show from a sample sale at One Hanson Place in Brooklyn, while roughly 300 guests watched a livestream at Théâtre Daunou in Paris. The twist came mid-runway, when a model answered a ringing phone, asked Clemens where he was, and he insisted he was in Paris before rallying the Brooklyn crowd to start the real show. The collection delivered inside-out blazers, glossy jacquards, animal prints, and red denim, mixing businesswear with streetwear the way only Telfar can.

If that sounds chaotic, it’s on brand. Since launching his gender-neutral label in 2005, Clemens has redesigned White Castle uniforms, sent models crowdsurfing, turned a dinner at Pitti Uomo into a runway, and dropped Live Price in 2023, where items started at wholesale and climbed until they sold out. His Shopping Bag, famously nicknamed the“Bushwick Birkin,”once resold for an average 195% of retail value. Even this summer’s“severe downsizing”announcement turned out to be a tiny version of the bag. Every move keeps his community at the center while the industry watches.

So what do you think: was closing Paris Fashion Week from Brooklyn a stroke of marketing genius, or just the best troll fashion has seen in years? Sound off in the comments.
