Taylor Swift Breaks Beyoncé's Tie to Become the Most-Awarded Solo Artist in VMA History

Taylor Swift just made VMA history. At the 2026 ceremony at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, she became the most-awarded solo artist in the show’s history, breaking a 30-win tie with Beyoncé. Dakota Johnson presented her with the inaugural Artist Director Honors, and Swift kept her speech short and sweet, thanking MTV for giving music videos a platform and crediting her fans for making directing so much fun.

Then she did something nobody saw coming. Right after accepting the honor, Swift premiered her brand new self-directed music video for“Patient Zero,”which features none other than Colin Farrell. She was also nominated for 11 awards this year, including Video of the Year and Artist of the Year, so it was already a massive night before the record even landed.

The milestone also resurfaced the most infamous VMA moment of all time: 2009, when Kanye West interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech. Seventeen years later, she’s the one holding the record.
