Tatum O’Neal made a rare public appearance in Los Angeles over the weekend, photographed walking with a cane alongside her family. The Oscar winner, 62, looked happy in the photos, and it’s the first real glimpse fans have gotten of her in a while. Days earlier she shared a selfie on Instagram, captioned simply“Hope”with a heart emoji.
The backstory is heavy. In 2023, O’Neal revealed that a 2020 overdose on pain medication and morphine led to a six-week coma and a near-fatal stroke. Her son Kevin McEnroe said she also suffered a cardiac arrest and multiple seizures. She was later diagnosed with aphasia and has spent years working on her strength and memory and relearning to read and write.
O’Neal won the best supporting actress Oscar at just 10 for 1973’s Paper Moon, alongside her father Ryan O’Neal, and her recovery has been embraced by fans who grew up watching her. Her family has called her comeback a miracle. Have you been following her journey? Tell us in the comments.
