Sydney Towle built a following of over one million on TikTok by sharing her battle with cholangiocarcinoma, a rare bile duct cancer she was diagnosed with in 2023 at just 23 years old. She died August 5 at 26, one day after entering hospice, leaving behind a community that had followed every step of her treatment and clinical trials.

On October 4, her brother Austin honored her in the most personal way possible, spreading her ashes in the water at Hobe Sound, Florida, a place she loved deeply. He shared the moment on Instagram and TikTok, with Sheryl Crow’s“Soak Up the Sun”playing over the video, and wrote that her spirit will live on in the place she loved the most.

Sydney was known for her unshakable positivity, once saying that when people asked why she stayed so upbeat, her answer was simple: why would she not envision the best-case scenario? That mindset is what drew a million people to her page and what keeps them coming back even now. Her story also shined a light on rare cancer awareness and the importance of clinical trial access for young patients.

If you followed Sydney’s journey, what’s the moment of hers that stayed with you? Share it in the comments.
